The Kingdom of Norway consistently ranks as the top 10 most expensive countries to live in. As such, travelling on a budget is probably not quite the first thing that comes to mind. However, if we were to dissect what constitutes the budget in any travel plan, we can quickly get a grasp of removing costs to keep the budget in check. For example, staying in hotels and eating in restaurants are expensive. And to many, staying in a luxurious room, coupled with a gastronomic experience forms the basis of any travel plans. However, if the priority is to see, we can consider eliminating these two cost components.

The law of the Freedom to Roam allows travelers to wild camp, eliminating the cost of accommodation, where supermarkets and camping supplies, allows for self catering. If nutrition is down to getting the required molecules for sustenance, even ready-to-eat meals are a more affordable option. Many Norwegians and even European travelers self cater and wild camp. That said, the key necessity is really having your very own vehicle, whether it is a campervan or a sedan car. While car rentals may also be pretty expensive if not booked well in advance, it is still better value than adhering to the limited bus schedules where buses may also be full during travel peak season. Bus fares are also pretty pricey.
