The Sultanate of Oman is almost the size of Germany, so a comparatively large counrty, this surely counts for something? The official country name is alluring – a Sultanate, where the head of state is the Sultan, not a king. As a comparison, the Royal Head of State of Saudi Arabia is King. For this reason, the stories revolving around the Sultans, the transition of power and the unpublished personal lives of the royal family is a whole subject of interest.
The stories and culture aside, the Sultanate of Oman has coastlines and seafronts, mountains, sinkholes, wadis and lots of history in its forts and ruins. While the country is comparatively more expensive at USD 65 per day. Furthermore, the exchange rate of the Omani Rial (OMR) is one of the highest ever when OMR 1 is worth about USD 2.60. However, please do not let this figure scare you! I was able to purchase meals for less than OMR2. There are also things in Oman which are pretty affordable by international standards.

There is an amazing network of trails in Oman developed and marked to international standards. Along W6 the Balcony Trail, I came to pass a memorial, and learned about Mr Reinhard Siegl , an Austrian who created hundreds of kilometers of hiking paths as well as the first via ferrata.
With mountains and nature, there will be wildlife, and thankfully, I haven’t met the less desirable types. In fact, the good news is that there seems to be no cockroaches due to the low humidity. There also seem to be lesser flies and mosquitoes than neighboring countries. For this reason, I probably enjoyed the food more . Kudos to the cleaners for keeping the country clean, though there are still litter found along the trails, which are unfortunately left by other travelers.
If you have more time, consider seeing more of Oman at the Musandam, as well as linking up itineraries in the United Arab Emirates for 2 and even 3 weeks.
